Breathe it all in.

[drishta dharma sukha viharin]

dwell happily in things as they are.

2013 has come and gone, and as always incredibly quickly.  I really love the idea of a fresh year and 365 blank pages to write whatever you want.  Last year I started with a 30 day mediation challenge and it was the best thing I ever did.  For 30 days, meditate in the morning, in the evening, walking your dog, running off your chocolate – whatever, wherever and for however long!  There are no rules.  Meditation is simply breath.  Take a moment entirely, completely for yourself.  Join me.  This year fill up.  Stop.  Then start with your breath.

Breathe in the next 365 days of your year and love it all out.

Day 1

Day 2

Day 2

I mixed it up a little with this shake!  It was super delicious!  If you love coconut you will love this guy.  I have had to adjust a few of the ingredients that I haven’t been able to find out here in Sheffield, but it was still super yummy.  Here is the recipe!

  • Heaping handful of Spinach
  • Add a little bit of Parsley to flavour
  • 3/4 cup of Blackberries & Blueberries
  • 1 tbs Coconut milk ( the coconut milk I purchased was solid for some reason… so I melted and stirred it up? If you are using coconut water it would be about 1 cup)
  • 2 tbs Natural Coconut flakes
  • 1/2 Banana
  • Add roughly 1 cup of water to blend

day 1

Day 1

Prepped my morning shakes for the next few days and they are delicious!  Any sort of citrus fruit – lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit – masks the “green-y” taste of the kale, spinach, celery or whatever you toss into your shakes!  Don’t get me wrong, there is still a green taste to your shakes – but not so bad!  For a little extra I chose to toss in some hemp protein, chia seeds and flax seeds.

3 Days

The leaves are starting to change colour and the air is getting a little crisper!  I try to do a cleanse for each change of the seasons.  I know, I know, I missed the fall equinox…. whoops.  And – cleanse!?  Personally, after just a couple days of juicing I notice a change in my energy, a clearer complexion, and I just feel good!  I reset and refresh.  I am a firm believer in do what works for you – so personally, it works for me!  Plus, its only a couple days – I can manage.

I love, love, love Kimberly Snyder and her book The Beauty Detox.  She does a great job of explaining how our bodies process food and how that correlates with our energy levels.  The cleanses I usually stick to are my own “home remedies” which include her glowing green smoothies, raw veggies and fruits, and raw almonds for two days.  Its not “precise” and I am not following any strict guidelines but its easy and I feel great!

This fall Im trying out Joe Cross’s 3 Day Juice Cleanse.

The recipes look wicked and Im stoked to try them out!  So grab you shopping bags, head out to the grocery store.  Join me, lets reset and refresh for fall October 1st!

the Kind Life

Currently I am reading a book called “The Kind Life” by Alicia Silverstone.

It is a wonderfully written book about Vegan and Vegetarian lifestyle with wicked recipes!   I will be posting a brief summary of the book in a post to come so be on the lookout!  For now you can refer to her blog to check out whats new in the Vegan community.

I would highly recommend the book as well!

Re.evaluate & Meditate

When you close your eyes- what do you see?

Join me and start the New Year with a 30 day Meditation.

I understand most of us have our individual “New Years Resolution” and are most likely busy in pursuit of those….

but what is a spare 5 minutes out of your day really?

For this 30 day journey simply set aside as much time as you can spare – quality over quantity– to sit down, create space and breathe.  Viola!  It doesn’t involve us twisting and bending our bodies, nor strick manipulation of breath, no chanting or singing – unless you want to!  Just simply you comfortable, breathing and being. Studies are starting to prove the miraculous benefits of just a 5 minute meditation in the morning.  Think about it this way- if you have time to brew your cup of coffee in the morning, take the dogs for a walk in the afternoon or a glass of wine in the evening- then you have time to meditate!

I’ll be blogging along this 30 day journey with different tips, insights that hopefully can assist you as we rock out in 2013!

Lets create more peace through presence – join me!
